Croton ‘Mammy’

Bold color and glossy, sculptural foliage make the Croton ‘Mammy’ a lively accent for a bright interior. Its leaves bring shifting tones and expressive texture to a room, with the strongest coloration developing where it receives ample light.

Plant Characteristics

• Glossy, colorful foliage
• Upright evergreen shrub-like growth
• Leaf color and pattern vary naturally with age and growing conditions

Care Details

• Light: Very bright light; some gentle direct sun can help maintain color
• Water: Water as the upper layer of soil starts to dry, allowing excess water to drain; reduce watering in winter
• Soil: Rich, well-draining potting mix
• Conditions: Protect from cold drafts and temperatures near 50°F
• Pet safety: Toxic to pets. If chewed or eaten, croton may cause drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea; its sap may also irritate skin.

Too little light can dull the foliage and contribute to leaf loss. The sap may irritate skin and can stain fabric, so take care when pruning and keep the plant away from pets and young children.

Styling & Placement

Give it a bright position near a window, away from cold glass and heating or cooling vents. Choose a simple planter that lets the foliage’s color remain the focal point; select the display height to suit the plant actually delivered.
