Product Description

Long, narrow leaves rise from Alocasia scalprum with a dark sheen and pronounced ridges that catch the light. Its striking texture brings a quietly dramatic, sculptural note to a bright interior.

Plant Characteristics

  • Elongated, narrow leaves with deeply defined surface texture
  • Dark green foliage; tone and sheen vary with light and natural growth
  • Upright Alocasia habit, with leaf count and form varying between plants

Care Details

  • Light: Place in bright, indirect light, away from direct sun.
  • Water: During active growth, water when the top roughly 2″ of potting mix is dry, then let excess water drain. If growth slows or the plant goes dormant in winter, water much less. Wet dormant roots can rot.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining houseplant mix in a pot with drainage. Horticultural grit can improve drainage when repotting.
  • Humidity: Alocasias prefer medium to high humidity. Dry air can brown leaf edges and favor spider mites; grouping plants or a humidifier may help.
  • Temperature: Keep warm during active growth, at least 60°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F, including during transport.
  • Feeding: During active growth, use a general liquid fertilizer according to its label; hold off while dormant.
  • Upkeep: Remove fading leaves at the base, check for spider mites, and avoid overwatering. Wear gloves when handling cut or damaged growth because sap can irritate skin.
  • Safety: Alocasias contain irritating calcium oxalate crystals and should not be eaten. Keep away from pets and children.

Styling & Placement

Give the elongated leaves space to show their ridged surfaces in bright, indirect light, away from drafts and out of reach of pets and children.
