Product Description

Fine vines carry little heart-shaped leaves marbled in silver, with cream and blush-pink edging that changes from leaf to leaf. Variegated String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii) brings softness and movement to a bright interior as its stems spill over a planter’s edge.

Plant Characteristics

  • Heart-shaped leaves patterned in green and silver, with variable cream and pink variegation
  • Slender trailing vines; fullness and vine length vary naturally
  • May develop small bead-like tubers along the stems

Care Details

  • Light: Give it bright, indirect light. One to two hours of direct sun can be tolerated, but prolonged harsh sun may scorch leaves; wide gaps between leaves can indicate insufficient light.
  • Water: Let the potting mix dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering further during winter dormancy. Yellowing and root rot can follow overwatering; wilted leaves may indicate insufficient water.
  • Soil: Use a sandy, well-draining potting mix in a container with drainage.
  • Humidity: Average household humidity is suitable; this plant tolerates dry indoor air. It does not need a humidifier or routine misting.
  • Temperature: Aim for roughly 60–80°F. Protect from cold and frost; temperatures below about 45°F can damage the plant.
  • Feeding: During active growth from spring to early fall, use a balanced liquid fertilizer at half the label strength about once a month. Stop feeding when growth slows in late fall and winter.
  • Upkeep: Check the vines for aphids, mealybugs, and scale. Trim long or damaged vines with clean scissors. To encourage a fuller pot, lay healthy vine sections across the soil so nodes can root. Repot only when necessary; it tolerates a snug pot.
  • Pet safety: Ceropegia woodii is generally regarded as non-toxic to cats and dogs, but eating large quantities of plant material may cause mild digestive upset.

Styling & Placement

Let the vines trail from a bright shelf or hanging planter. Keep the nursery pot draining freely even when displayed inside a decorative container.
