Scindapsus ‘Platinum Java’

Softly luminous and richly textured, the Scindapsus ‘Platinum Java’ pairs deep green foliage with a silvery finish that shifts subtly in the light. Its trailing growth creates an easy sense of movement, making it a striking choice for shelves, elevated planters, and collected indoor displays.

Compact when young, it gradually develops longer stems that can be left to cascade or trained upward for a more architectural silhouette.

Plant Characteristics

• Green foliage with a distinctive silver-toned finish
• Trailing or climbing growth habit
• Slow to moderate indoor growth
• Evergreen foliage for year-round interest

Care Details

• Care level: Easy to moderate
• Light: Bright, indirect light or partial shade
• Water: Water when the upper layer of soil begins to dry; avoid both prolonged dryness and standing water
• Soil: Use a loose, organic, well-draining indoor potting mix
• Temperature: Best between approximately 65–85°F; protect from cold drafts
• Pet safety: Toxic if ingested by cats or dogs

Avoid strong direct sun, which can damage the foliage. Yellowing leaves may indicate excessive moisture, while curling leaves can signal that the plant has become too dry.

Wear gloves when pruning if you have sensitive skin, as the sap contains calcium oxalate crystals and may cause irritation.

Styling & Placement

Let the stems trail from a shelf, bookcase, or elevated planter for a relaxed display, or guide them upward along a small support for a taller, more structured form. Bright filtered light will help preserve the foliage’s silver character.

It works especially well in living rooms, offices, and bedrooms when placed safely beyond the reach of pets and young children.
