Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’

Silvery leaves traced with darker veins give Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ a sculptural, almost embossed look. Set against a simple planter, its upright foliage brings texture and contrast to a bright interior.

Plant Characteristics

• Light silvery-green foliage with prominent darker veins
• Upright leaves that make a strong visual accent
• Leaf shape, color, and fullness vary naturally between plants

Care Details

• Light: Place in bright, indirect light, protected from direct sun.
• Water: During active growth, water when the top roughly 2″ of potting mix feels dry, then let excess water drain. Reduce watering substantially if growth slows or the plant goes dormant in winter; wet dormant roots can rot.
• Soil: Use a well-draining indoor potting mix. When repotting, drainage can be improved with horticultural grit.
• Humidity: Alocasias prefer medium to high humidity. Dry air can brown leaf edges and favor spider mites; a humidifier or grouping plants can help.
• Temperature: Keep warm during active growth, ideally at or above 60°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F.
• Feeding: During active growth, use a general liquid fertilizer according to its label; hold off while dormant.
• Upkeep: Remove fading leaves at the base. Watch for spider mites and signs of overwatering. Wear gloves when handling leaves or cut stems because sap may irritate skin.
• Safety: Alocasias contain irritating calcium oxalate crystals and should not be eaten. Keep away from pets and children.

Styling & Placement

Give the textured leaves space to stand out on a bright shelf or plant stand, out of reach of pets and children.
