Alocasia ‘Pink Dragon’

Alocasia ‘Pink Dragon’ pairs dark, arrow-shaped leaves and pale, graphic veins with slender pink-toned stalks. The contrast gives this upright plant a striking presence in a bright interior.

Plant Characteristics

• Dark green, arrow-shaped leaves with prominent pale veins
• Pink-toned leaf stalks, with color varying between plants and growing conditions
• Upright habit; leaf count and form vary naturally

Care Details

• Light: Bright, indirect light, protected from direct sun.
• Water: During active growth, water when the top roughly 2″ of mix is dry, then drain. Reduce watering substantially if growth slows or the plant goes dormant in winter. Avoid waterlogged soil, especially while dormant.
• Soil: Use a well-draining houseplant mix in a pot with drainage; horticultural grit can improve drainage when repotting.
• Humidity: Alocasias prefer medium to high humidity. Dry air can brown leaf edges and favor spider mites; grouping plants or using a humidifier may help.
• Temperature: Keep warm during growth, at least 60°F; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F, including in transit.
• Feeding: Use a general liquid fertilizer during active growth according to its label; hold off during dormancy.
• Upkeep: Remove fading leaves at the base, check for spider mites, and avoid overwatering. Wear gloves when handling damaged growth because sap may irritate skin.
• Safety: Alocasias contain irritating calcium oxalate crystals and should not be eaten. Keep away from pets and children.

Styling & Placement

Place in bright, indirect light away from cold drafts and out of reach of pets and children. Use a pot with drainage rather than a waterside setting.
