Red African Milk Tree (Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’)
Product Description
Upright, angular stems and red-flushed growth give Red African Milk Tree a striking silhouette. This ‘Rubra’ selection brings shades of green, burgundy, and magenta to a bright interior, with color varying as the plant grows and conditions change.
Plant Characteristics
- Upright, branching succulent with three-sided stems
- Short spines along the stem ridges
- Red-to-maroon leaves and red-edged green stems may vary between plants
Care Details
- Light: Bright, indirect light indoors; avoid a sudden move into harsh direct sun.
- Water: Water sparingly when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, then let excess water drain. Avoid waterlogged roots.
- Soil: A well-draining cactus or succulent mix in a pot with drainage.
- Temperature: Prefers warmth, around 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below about 45°F.
- Upkeep: Allow airflow around the stems. Handle carefully because the ridges have spines.
- Safety: Toxic to pets and people if ingested. Broken stems release milky sap that can irritate or blister skin; wear gloves when handling and keep away from children and pets.
Styling & Placement
Let its vertical form stand apart in a bright space, away from traffic where its spines could be brushed. Choose the display position from the plant’s delivered height, not its nursery-pot diameter.
What Arrives
One live Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’ in the selected 2″, 3″, 4″, or 6″ nursery pot. Height, branching, and red coloration vary naturally. A decorative planter is not included unless specified for the selected option.
